Notes from the author
This is my first book on strategy.

I can't recall the precise time -but it was around the mid of 1990s, people started to ask me to share ideas on business and strategy. Among others, paper is one of the mediums.

Each paper carry one single topic. It could be a fact, idea, tip, or criticism about business and strategy. The intention of the paper is to provide a practical but strategic ideas about the discussed topic.

This book is the collection of those published papers. Certainly, it had been revisited and edited to ensure the adaptability to the current situation.

It is a pocket size book to ensure its carrying practicability.

Synopsis
Don't buy this book if you are looking for strategy concepts or academic theories. This book was not written to serve that purpose. But if you are looking for practical strategic ideas within 15 minutes, you have to purchase this book. This book consisted of many brief articles on various business & strategy issues.

This is the example:
"Market is mysterious. It is not a set of logics which can be understood in causality effect. It is common that buyers or customers don't know the exact reason to buy......So, what is the message? Utilize logics and all senses at the same time. If finally it feels good, launch the product. Because, like dating, a relationship or product could be successful or fail without logical explanation".

Notes from the author
Every book has it own story. The idea of this book came from my extensive and continuous interaction with the SMEs (Small & Medium Enterprises) of Indonesia in many occasions. For examples: seminar, discussion, talk show, etc.

Each time the topic came to financing issues, the forum became full of questions. In many ways, it consistently pictured a clear profile: many of the SMEs faced difficulty to obtain loan from financial institutions. Amongst others, I believe that the limited knowledge of the SMEs on various aspects of credit/loan is one of the reasons. It was concluded from the questions asked or comments.

This situation keep on haunting me. Certainly, it was my honor and pleasure to entertain those questions in the forum. I even more than happy to consult them. But, how many SMEs can I assist in such way? Therefore, I decide to share my experiences and thought on this issue in a book.

Analisis Kredit Untuk Account Officer

Language : Indonesian
Publisher  : PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama

Notes from the author
If "Panduan Dasar Untuk Account Officer" is the basic course, then this book is the intermediate.

I observed - and also experienced it - that the material of almost all trainings/workshops on commercial credit analysis were taken from overseas, mostly from States and Europe, i.e. the notes and cases. Of course nothing's wrong with that. But, up to certain extend, I believed that it was not applicable in Indonesia's context. The business environment was different, the law enforcement was different, as well as the market characteristics.

Moreover - again - I can't found a book that discussed the credit skill that can be used as a main reference. Many books discussed about financial management, but not specifically for the benefit of the Account Officers.

Therefore, I decided to wrote this book to share thoughts, ideas, experiences.

This book gained an extreme success in the market. Majority of commercial banking Account Officer used this book as their main reference.

Synopsis
"Bank is a risk business". That's the statement usually used to describe bank business characteristic. It is true since one of the bank's main business is credit, and it is commonly known that the success of credit will be proved in the future.

To ensure that the credit extended is feasible, bank develops a series of steps to evaluate credit or loan proposal which is so called credit analysis.

This book describes in detail and in a very practical way how to evaluate credit/loan proposal. It covers both quantitative and qualitative analysis, such as techniques available to analyze financial statement, calculate working capital needs, construct a simple cash flow statement, etc.

Supplemented by case studies, this book has widely accepted and used as a reference by Account Officers and whoever interested in credit analysis.

Panduan Dasar Untuk Account Officer

Language : Indonesian
Publisher  : UPP AMP-YKPN

Notes from the author
This is my first book.

The reason for me to wrote this book was to assist any Account Ofiicer candidates to gain quick basic knowledge needed to perform their tasks. When I first entered the banking industry as a Account Officer candidate, it was very difficult to find one book that can be used as the main reference for me. I had to read many books and - the most difficult of it as a beginner - resembled it myself. One book focused too much on the operational aspect while other book focused too much on the strategic aspect. I wish this book can resolve this issue.

In addition, at that point in time, every time I delivered training/workshop to the candidates (junior) Account Officer, I always provided hand-out to focus their attention to the discussion instead of write down the content (you know, the juniors like to take notes and experienced revealed that they write almost every sentences). Since I involved in many Account Officer development programs, the papers or hand-out written were customized to the needs of that respective position.

I am very glad that this book gained wide market acceptance.

This book is under revision. Several materials are not suitable anymore to the present condition. Therefore, it has to be removed. However, other new materials has to be added. The 3rd edition is expected to be launched in the early of 2005.
